Phoenix and a Ford HD 4R100 transmission

My truck ('01 F-250 7.3 PSD 4x4) has a HD 4R100 auto transmission in it that replaced the original standard 4R100. it also has a Ford AIS intake and MBRP 4" exhaust.... Otherwise stock.

Would I get a chip with Sandard Tunes or is the HD 4R100 considered a modified transmission requiring Custom Tunes?

Pretty sure you can just get the regular tunes if you don't have a modified valve body in the trans.

Ok, good, I didn't want to have to get custom tunes just because of the transmission since the rest of my truck is pretty tame (intake, exhaust and guards). The HD4R100 improvements are this:
  • Enhanced Torque Converter for better performance and longer life
  • Oversize one piece case bushing for improved durability
  • Enhanced Forward, Direct, and Intermediate Friction plates for longer life under heavy load shifts
  • All new special upgraded steel plates
  • Center Support Enhancements for improved gear train life
  • Mercon V-OIL for greater heat resistance
  • Oversize Pump Gear Set for improved oil flow
  • Upgraded Extension Housing Bushing for improved durability
  • 45 Element Intermediate Sprag for greater strength to withstand heavy loads
  • Special coast clutch drum for improved engine braking and increased durability
  • All new iron planetary assemblies for improved durability
  • All new one way clutches for improved durability
  • All new electronics for improved reliability
  • Revised calibration gives better shifts for heavy duty use
  • Improved gasketing for reduced leaks

How is the 4R100 HD holding up?

Doing vine.. Just did a 1100 mile trip pulling the TT and a family of 4 from Atlanta to Destin to Myrtle Beach (TS Debby chased us out of Florida) and back to Atlanta last week.

the transmission stayed good temperature wise, but I think I'll still upgrade to the larger 6.0 cooler.

We have about 13000-14000 miles on it now.

Did you get the standard tunes? I am in the same boat with a new trans but they did add a shift kit to it. The trans guy said he can replace it if need be and thinking for the extra $200 for the custom chip I can have the trans back to stock for no cost...
I did have the billet torque converter with low stall added.
Once i get all info together I will place my order.

thanks
