Chip and effects on auto trans?
I have a 01 F250 with 7.3l with 108k miles. I want to get a phoenix chip, but I'm wanting to hear some feedback from people about the effects on the 4r100. I am looking for something to give me a little more power, nothing crazy. I would run the truck in the 65hp daily driver tune 90% of the time when not towing my boat. The trans now feels solid and shifts good. I know these auto trans aren't the best, but I'd hate to run it on the 65hp DD tune and have it take out the trans or weaken it. I also have a 4" lift and 35's on the truck. I know a lot comes down to how you drive the vehicle and I take it pretty easy. Truck is completely stock except for a drop in K&N filter.

I think you will be fine. I believe the torque converter is the worst part of the 4R100 IIRC. I would say you will be ok as long as your not racing around in the 120R program.
I mostly used DP's 80E and my tranny has been ok for the past 4 yrs Ive owned it. I occasionally pull a dump-trailer and mini-ex or skid. I'm guessing around 12-15K. I can definitily feel the mini-ex and would like to build my truck so I can't really tell its there. anyway I do not really like the stock tranny and I have 187K on it. I am getting a BTS tranny June 1st, supposed to be a world of difference. In your case; You should not have to worry. Hopefully others with better knowledge will help out |
If you are satisfied with the way your trans is now I believe you will be surprised at how much difference you will notice with Bill's tunes. I believe you will like the slightly firmer shifts. Just keep in mind that you will be putting more power to the trans & it seems like it pretty hit & miss, some trans last quite a while & some don't.

Thanks for the replies. I know it's sort of a trade off to an extent with power and longevity just wanted to hear what most people find as far as the power and life of the auto trans.
