Lars, that's a great post!

I seem to remember Bill posting something about this a few months back. Same scenario - part of the oil filter came loose and clogged an oil passage.

I know it sounds like Ford wants you to be a slave to their service departments, but maybe, just maybe, there's a reason for it?

I ALWAYS used to change my own oil. I stopped doing it when it got to be a big hassle getting rid of the old stuff. I DO acknowledge though, that Ford charges quite a lot for this fairly simple service. At least my dealership does.

Chuck, I hear you, but I bet Ford would win if they claimed any aftermarket (non-Motorcraft) filter damaged your engine.
