Hey! I'm old school too!
First time I looked under the hood, I asked myself, where the heck did they hide the spark plug wires? Then, I noticed there was no distributor!
But, the engine actually ran! No throttle linkage - now I really WAS confused.
But, with a bit of research on forums like this one (actually, this one's the best), I found out what was going on.
