I have a CAI I'm gonna install next week. I want good power, but I do drive my truck alot, so good fuel effeciency would be nice.

It seems you're happy using 93 octane gas, so I'd get a custom 93 octane tune, and, you definitely want a custom tune if you're going to install a CAI.

How much improvement in gas mileage? I can't promise anything, but I saw about 0.5 mpgs improvement going from canned to custom tunes (using 87 octane gas).

Now the hard question: Do you want an 87 octane tune? Only if 93 octane is no longer available, OR, the price differential between 87 and 93 becomes so great that it would be more economical to use 87. But, you'd need an 87 octane tune for comparison. However, the cost for the extra tune is pretty minimal, all things considered, so I think I'd get it.

Some people swear the savings in gas mileage using high octane makes up for the price difference. You'd have to check this yourself. Suppose you get 17 mpg using 93 and 15 mpg using 87. That's a 13.3 % increase using 15 as a basis. (2/15 = 0.1333) Now suppose 93 costs $2.40 and 87 costs $2.10. Again, using 2.10 as a basis, the increase in cost is 0.30/2.10 = 0.143 or 14.3%. So, in this scenario, you would save just a bit of money using 87 octane.

I don't know that there's a lot of difference between a performance tune and an economy tune. Basically, I think Bill just tries to give you the biggest bang for your buck.
