Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled)
Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip.

If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here.

Default Tow tune question which one do I need

I have a 2000 f-250 crew cab short box 4x4. I have the napa 6637 filter set up and 4" turbo back exhaust for mods. I have 3 pillar gauge set up too with egt trans boost.

I have a question about which tow tunes to order. My camper weighs 5600lbs. I had the truck and camper weighed last camping trip and the truck with 4 people in cab coolers full bikes loaded full of fuel in truck gross weight was 13940lbs. This will be pretty much the weight I would tow most of the time. I was kicking around getting the light tow 80hp it says up to 7500lbs. and the 65 hp tow tune also.

My question is what is the difference in these tunes will the 80hp tune run hotter egts? Can I pull in the mountains of Ky TN with this tune? Or should I get the 65hp and 40hp tow tunes.

Thanks
Duane

Hey Duane, Cody will give you good info hear but just to let you know I've been pulling my gn 3-horse trl in the 80dd tune. It's wt is about 6500lbs empty & with 3 1000lb horses my temps have stayed good. I pretty much drive like a old fart with horses on & like the shifts better than the 65t. Haven't been in the hills so don't know what the temps will go to but I'll just keep eye on guages. Check out the 120perf tune, it's lots of fun for playing & the high idle is great for the A/C. Good luck, CJ

I weighed my truck and trailer the other day and empty they came in at 16000. I run it in the 40 tow but have played with it in the 65 performance tune and egts were 950 doing 65 mph. This was in the flat area of Phoenix, I will test some more when I take it up north this weekend. I will be tackling 6% + grades in doing so.

If you have a pyrometer, you can pretty well pull in any tune although the higher HP tunes are going to be harder on the rest of the drive train while under constant-duty load such as pulling up long grades.

The 65T program will allow you to pull without worrying about EGT too much as long as you don't lug the truck. RPM is your friend when pulling hard. The 80T will run hotter under load than the 65T.
