Fuel pump pain
I was removing my fuel pump and everything seemed to be going fine. Fuel bowl came out fine and in the process of removing the fuel pump it wouldn't budge. It wiggled a little bit but wouldn't come fully out. So I applied even pressure to both sides and then boom it came off. But without the lower half from the o-ring down, it was left in the block. I was WTF and kinda paniced. I went to the tool box and found my most trusted set of tools in the box, dental pics. The o-ring was visible and I tried to move it. The metal around the plunger moved down and I got some needle nose pliers to hold the plunger. With more motivation with the dental pic, the o-ring finally came out and then the rest of the parts came out. I got real lucky on this one. On a side note make sure the ecentric on the cam is in the up position so you don't loose the plunger.

That's enough to make your pooper pucker! Glad you got it sorted fairly easily. Could have been much worse.

True. after that happened I just stopped for the night and finished up yesterday morning. Had to take the rental back yesterday so I had a chance to get the air out of the system

It really makes me appreciate the electric frame-mounted pump on the Super Duty trucks......
I did the fuel pump on my 95 because the fuel lines to and from it were rotten and leaking. Good thing I had 49" tires that I could use as steps. However, my knees were sore for days because of the constant jumping off onto a concrete floor so I could get tools. Those OBS fuel pumps are a PITA.

49" tires thats almost as tall as I am. I am glad I got a 2wd drive. I did have to lay across it, but I did have a helper to get me tools. Its nice not having the fuel smell coming into the cab now. With my next fuel up I will see if I can get back into the 20's.

Next time your fuel pump goes out seriously consider converting to an electric system. It's not that hard or expensive but wow what a difference it makes. Truck ran better all around plus tons more room in the valley without that great honking fuel filter canister in there! Extra bonus is no more banjo bolt!
