The Gryphon is a flash device that will re-write the programing on your PCM(which takes some time), where as the Phoenix chip will override the PCM and run off the programming withing the chip(instant).
I like the chip, never know when you are gonna have to crank it up to pass slow moving cars or challenge a ricer from a stoplight...... afterwords click it back to your Daily/ Economy setting and continue on your way. Ohh....can one of you Mods with some power move this for me.
