Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled) Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip. If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here. |

I have been looking at different tunes and tuners for awhile now and recently decided that PHP would be the way to go.
Here are my tunes that I have picked. 1. Stock 2.80 DD 3.100 Per 4.120 Race 5.65 Tow 6.High Idle w/ anti theft or whisper Before I get to the questions I want to say that my truck is used more for DD than towing. One of the questions I had was for those that use the whisper do you still have to just shut the truck off in drive through's or not? Another question is about the 65 tow, I do not tow that often as well but I just picked up a deer lease this year and can see my self towing a camper or 16ft trailer with 4wheelers and anything else you would need. For this reason I opted for a 65 to rather than the 80 tow and if for some reason I had to tow something less than 7500 than can just use the 80 DD. Last question is on should I go with the Phoenix or just get the F.U. chip? I do plan on adding more mods to the truck like BTS Tranny, Regulated Return w/ Fuel Bowl Delete, Injectors and other things. This wont be done all at once but as I have available cash. Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of things I need to clear everyone up one.
one thing being the order of the tunes. 1.80 dd 2.100 Per 3.120 Race 4.65 tow 5.45 tow w/whisper 6.anti theft I am going to get rid of stock since I can just remove the chip to get my stock tune back. About the tow paragraph in the first post I was just wanting input on what I was thinking about doing. What you guys think?

I like your 1st list better with the high idle/anti-theft in the 6 pos.
Personally once I put the chip in I wish I could have welded it to the PCM, I don't want to mess with taking it out & putting it back as it seems quite a few people end up in a bad spot sometimes when messing with them.

I am starting to lean back toward the first one due to not wanting to have deal with removing the chip to get the stock tune and I would like to compare between the stock tunes and PHP tunes.
1.Stock 2.80dd 3.100per 4.120race 5.65tow/whisper 6.High Idle/anti-theft Would combining tunes call for a custom tune? I sent and email out to both Bill and Cody on thursday but I have not received anything from them... For the people that have been removing the chip to get the stock tune what problems have you had with doing this?

Some folks have probably R&R their chip 100's of times with no problems
I just don't like messing with the spark & flash stuff...lol but you hear of folks frying their PCM messing with the chip. It was JMHO about leaving the chip in

From the product pages of the website:
Phoenix: "Our $295 chip is for customers that do not require additional custom tuning. If you have modified your transmission, your chip will most likely need modified calibrations to work properly, and we suggest that you purchase a custom tuned chip for $445. We will be happy to send you a chip with our standard calibrations; however, we cannot guarantee that they will work properly with your transmission. Should your chip need to be reburned due to shifting issues, you will be responsible for paying the upcharge of $200 (for custom tunes) and shipping both in directions." FU: "Access to All Standard Calibrations Available for Your Truck's PCM Code" "PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE CALIBRATIONS THAT ARE INCLUDED WITH THE FU CHIP WILL NOT BE MODIFIED SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR TRUCK. IF YOU NEED MODIFIED CALIBRATIONS, PLEASE CHECK OUT THE FU2 CHIP." If you plan on changing injectors or going with a different transmission, you WILL need custom tuning. The FU will not take any ACTUAL modifications into account so it will be a huge waste of money if you plan on changing injectors or transmission hard parts in the future. The other products you listed/have don't have any effect on what goes on in the tuning so they aren't under the "custom" category. As for going from the Phoenix to the FU (or FU2), it used to be that Corey would charge the difference in price....but since I have nothing to do with anything but tuning for PHP, I can't answer that question or tell you whether or not it's something that's still offered. Whisper mode is more functional on some trucks than others. That being said, it's likely that you'll still need to shut the truck off if you're a frequent teller window or fast food drive-up person. These trucks are noisy and it's something that goes along with ownership. |

Cody,
I went back to the FU page and looked at what you all say it is good for and one of the last paragraphs says:"This product will also be ideal for customers who plan on adding performance injectors, "big-oil" HPOP systems, or other heavy mods sometime down the road. All you have to do is contact us with your modifications, Bill can write your new custom files (currently $30 each), and you'll be able to download them using Phoenix Flash!" The only thing is it is 30 bucks a tune which which would be 180 bucks for all 6 custom tunes. Which comes out to be the same price as the FU2. Thanks for you comments on the Whisper tune, looks like i might just leave it out initially.

Hey stranger.
The fu2 is basically the fu with custom tunes. Just get the fu for now and order custom tunes when you do the bigger upgrades. Not sure if it's current reg price now or not but custom tunes are $25 ea. I am pretty sure I paid $150 for my 6 custom tunes.

I would NOT have the whisper tune installed on any setting. All it does for my truck is lower the idle by 100 rpm which is not a good thing, noise reduction is pretty much zero. I was warned by PHP not to use it much or for extended periods since the changes made are not really good for the engine or the charging system. Definitely not on a tune you plan on driving with. |
