1963 to 1970 N-Series (N-500 and Larger)
The N-Series, a taller version of the F-Series, was a popular model for heavy hauling.

Thumbsup Anyone remember the N-Series?

Back in the 60's, Ford had a truck that used the F-Series cab, but it sat higher and had what sort of looked like a tilt nose on it. The hood didn't tilt, but was actually a "bat wing" style that folded up from the sides. Unfortunately, the fenders were so tall that it was virtually impossible to work on without actually lying up inside the engine compartment. And that was just for tune-ups and stuff. Forget trying to pull a head on one of these things.

The cool thing about these trucks is that additional cab height allowed for larger gas and diesel engines to be installed, greatly increasing HP output. With the wide variety of engines available throughout the series (N-500 to N-1100 for Gas, and N-6000 to N-9000 for Diesel), there were powertrain options to fit any application. Of course, the big daddy of the gas engines were the Super Duty 401, 477, and 534 Cubic Inch monsters.

There are still a few around running today and are sought after by collectors to be restored. Very cool trucks with a style that was distinctive for its time.

Enjoy!

I have the opportunity to buy an N600 with a 292 at a local auction this week.

Nah, don't need it.

Did you at least get any pics? Was it in good shape? Gotta love a Y-Block.
