My laptop is XP. That's why I installed there in the first time. Avoiding Vista issues.
Now it won't activate on either XP laptop, or my Vista64 Desktop. Initially, it activated fine on the XP laptop, but I got the Error 13 problem as described above. |

Gabeyd, Lars has brought this up in the Moderator's forum and we're waiting for Bill to check in.
Just a thought - did you possibly delete the directory the program was installed into when you uninstalled the program, and is there possibly some "install" directory that is telling your system that it's been registered once and now you can't do it twice? Any of that stuff left over CAN cause problems, as I'm sure you know since you weren't afraid to perform surgery on the registry. If those are not issues, I'd suspect there is a "hidden"/"anonymous" registry key that's causing the problem. I've had that happen in the past, and it's a real bear to get rid of. One more suggestion though, did you/can you try a "system restore" to a point before you installed the program the first time? It might just "free up" your registration key. I use a program called "Cobian Backup 8" that makes a daily snapshot of the registry and can restore it if things go south. It's freeware, and you could probably find it easily enough. I think I have mine set to maintain 30 days worth of registry backups. The program has saved me at least twice. - Jack

Thanks for the reply.
I did delete the install directory before re-installing - if you don't, it leaves behind version.txt, and then you can't get an update (Bill - you might want to look at fixing that too). But, because it's now doing the same thing on my XP laptop, and my Vista64 desktop, I don't think it's anything on my side - I suspect the activation server will need to be reset or something like that. The Vista64 machine never had Phoenix Flash on it before this morning, while the XP laptop did. I don't want to do System Restore, as I may have installed something else that I don't want to lose. I suspect that Bill will just need to let me activate again to the server, but then we'll be back to the Error 13 problem... We'll wait for Bill. Thanks, -Gabe |
