Default Tranny Cooler

I was wondering if anyone here has upgraded there tranny cooler.I tow a trailer and have a stock cooler but was thinking of upgrading. I heard that a newer 1 ton cooler is larger and will fit in the original spot, anyone try this?

I first got a Mag Hytech deep dish trans cooler. Normal driving lowered my trans temp from 160-170 to around 140, under normal operating conditions. Also run the diff cover. GREAT products. One of the first mods I suggest on most trucks.

After that, I prefer a trans cooler with a AUX e-fan. Reason is, I tow in some rural spots, and often not traveling at highway speeds, and going up STEEP terrain. This heats it up quick, even with a standard cooler. A regular cooler needs fresh, cool air passing through to be effective at all. With an AUX e-fan, it will pull that fresh air through for you. Great mod, and wont have to worry about temps again !

I like this one:

I believe B&M also offer a nice kit just like that, if you'd rather go that route.

*** just checked it out, looks like ya might save some money going with B&M, or another company such as "Be Cool" or "Permacool". Might want to look around.

I put a long Tru-Cool 4739 MAX on my 2000 F550 7.3. the 4739 is rated for 40,000#s gvw. I haul hay and run 35,000# to 45,000# gvw and the tranny temp stays well 145 to 160. With the stock cooler I could get 220 out of the tranny and it would take a long time to cool down,

I mouted the cooler in front of the ac condenser, and an electric fan is mounted in front of the cooler.

The Tru-Cool 4739 MAX I bought from Dieslesite.com for $135 after shipping, The fan i bought at Advanced Auto parts for $60

x2 on the True-Cool 4739. After I decided there was no knuckle room to get the old cooler out to put this one, the install became VERY easy. I routed the line to have the ATF flow through the new cooler first, then it goes down to the stock cooler. I bolted it on the same way as hayjay, so it's the first thing in the wind.

Non-towing situations only so far, but where I normally run 170-180* temps in the summer, I now run 130-140* temps.

I got mine from Dieselsite too - and my install looks the same pic at the bottom of this page: http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=205
