Default ECM/FICM Roll Back and FICM tunes

Ok, so first post here and I'm going to let it fly!

I have a 2005 CCLB 4x4 6.0 6-speed truck. It was originally an XUX2 (I can get the original strategy, just don't have it with me) and is now a DPF5 (VXCF7xx). FICM has been programmed to match the later strategy as well.

I want to roll the ECM and FICM back to the original strategy. I'd like to maybe do a mild FICM program to further bolster the fuel economy, especially if what I'm getting about Bills FICM tunes is correct in that they increase the pulse width without so much advancing the start of injection.

I became an SCT dealer back in 2004 and started tuning diesels in 2007. I have several amazingly good programs from the old strategy that would get high-17s to low-19mpg average regularly. The truck averages high-13s to mid-14s now.

This truck is used to tow a 5th wheel. Our last big trip, the truck and trailer combo loaded with the family crossed the scale at 21k combined. It got a best of 11mpg and a worst of 9.5mpg, and averaged 10.25mpg for 6000 miles of SoCal to ND, SD, MT, WY, UT, ID, WA, OR, and NV. Power was never an issue with the manual trans, I just kept the rpm above 1800 at all times, occasionally holding 3rd at 2500 to hold a grade at 50.

What is the best "mild" approach here? My old XUX2_Heavy_Tow_Brake tune made 100ft/lbs over stock at 1700rpm, ran 1100-1200egt's, and got 12mpg. I was never able to translate that tune to the current strategy, and would love to do so. It wouldn't hurt my feelings to have another 50-70 torque in that range.

Thanks in advance.

Where in Idaho are you?

So you can get with Bill and have him roll you back to a VXCF4 or its equal in the 6 speed files.

As for the FICM, if you ever get to Ogden, I can program the FICM for you with my PHP FICM programmer. Otherwise you can send it in to Bill, get on the list for the Remote programmer, or buy the programmer.

Bill also get out here usually for Weekend on the Edge, he could roll you back, and program your FICM then, depending on his schedule, if you prefer that route.

You have lots of options.

Default ECM/FICM Roll Back and FICM tunes

I'm actually in Southern California. Had planned to move to Idaho, and bought the truck there, then the economy slapped me square in the face and left me stuck here.

The engine in my truck is currently suffering from a nasty valvetrain tick after its second set of head gaskets. Rather than spend the time and money on yet another repair, I have a sound replacement engine on its way. It's very complete with a spare FICM, injectors and turbo, so I'll have parts to play with without the concern of down time.

I used to be that guy who would build it up for big power, put it on kill, and rip on the truck. But the older I get, the less I care for that route. If I knew unequivocally that I could do a relatively smoke free tune with 155cc injectors and one of these hybrid "DuraStroke" turbos, and make 350-375rwhp by 3000rpm and 750-800rwtq in the 1600-2000rpm range, I'd be all over it though.

Is the new software for tuning the 6.0 going to offer the same kind of range of adjustability as I'm used to with the SCT software or will it be more "novice" oriented?

I dont know on the "tune your own 6.0 software", I havent heard much from Bill on it, so thats a question best answered by him.

Ok, So I just checked my software, and I was a VXCF0F2 and I'd like to return to that specifically, along with a compatible FICM strategy. Can we determine if that is viable here, or do I need to call or email?

I think you'd be safe to request that, when you sign up for the roll back. Bill does the roll back with you remotely, so you'll be involved anyway.
