MScomm32.ocx error with Win 7 64 bit

I get a registered or missing file when I try to update the Phoenix FU software. Need to get this fixed but everything that you have on the website doesn't work to fix this problem.
Help please.

dietoremain Fri, March 4th, 2011 03:20 AM

eeek. hope this doesnt happen with my vista, btw post in the emergency section if you really need help asap.

dietoremain Mon, March 14th, 2011 10:57 PM

was this ever resolved? i just installed the software(chip is on its way) and i get the same error... chit.

Probuilder Mon, March 14th, 2011 11:35 PM

No it hasn't been resolved. It seems like problems get no attention, unless you start saying the product is junk and you want to send it back. I have even tried calling support to get it resolved. I am no longer running their chip or burner. My lawyer is getting ready to get my money back for the burner, since I have had so many problems with it, with no response from customer support. Sorry that you already bought the setup.

ticopowell Tue, March 15th, 2011 01:33 AM

Have you searched for this problem online? or tried a different computer? I know you all have friends and I am sure one of them has windows xp still on a computer. Also I remember getting something like this once, but I searched on google and found a solution or two. Good luck, and I am sorry that you havent gotten anything back yet.
Also dont worry about the lawyer, I am sure that Bill and Corey will be happy to refund your money, from what I have seen they are good at that, but dont take that as a promise, I just have seen that type of service in the past. Keep trying to call during business hours, or try their facebook page, or send an email, or E: all of the above.
Hope I gave some ideas on how to fix the problem. And i still am sorry that it hasnt been worked out yet :(

Probuilder Tue, March 15th, 2011 08:13 AM

Yes, I have done online searches, and found a few solutions, but they didn't work.
I don't have anyone that has a laptop with XP, that is an old system. Everyone that I know is running windows 7, on the laptop.
I have everything neatly installed in the truck, including the 6 position switch and wiring, that I don't want to tear that all back out to reprogram the the chip. :sigh: Then reinstall all the wiring to the chip and the switch afterwards. So a laptop is my only option.

ticopowell Tue, March 15th, 2011 11:39 AM

The only other thought that I have is try to completely uninstall and reinstall everything (which I am sure that you have already done), or find a windows 7 that is not 64 bit... good luck!

Probuilder Tue, March 15th, 2011 12:48 PM

I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it. Still don't work. Microsoft tells me that won't work unless I find all the Registry entries that the program installs and remove them. That is way above my computer skills, since if you delete the wrong thing the computer may not work again.

This is the fault of PHP's software, not my computer, so they need to fix it or refund all my money.

I sent another PM to them, we will see if anything happens now. But, I doubt anything gets resolved.:sigh::sigh:

I have tried to call them, either they aren't answering the phones or you get nothing.
The customer service system has a lot to be desired. Maybe they just need more people on the payroll that knows how to fix theses problems.

I think everyone would want them to have another person or two helping out, but they don't want to increase their prices to pay for them. Yeah it might be necessary sometimes, but I've not had a problem with their service.

I dont know if you are on Facebook, but they are having major computer problems right now. Corey's main computer crashed and Bill has spent the last few days replacing the hard drives, hard drive controller, motherboard, and installing all the programs on the new equipment. This and Corey's health have definitely hurt their business and their customer service lately, but it is something that comes with such a small business. The 3 well known (online) employees and their 1 shop guy can only do so much when the $#!^ hits the fan like it has lately.

I still think you should give them time, and I know that sucks, but it is either that or get angry at something that literally nobody is capable of fixing right now. :/

I agree with dietoremain in that I am not too worried, they are hard workers and will be true to their word as best as they are able.

Good luck with all this and keep calling! someone will answer :).

dietoremain Wed, March 16th, 2011 01:03 PM

I had no probs contacting. just spoke with Cody on the livechat and he said Bill is aware of the problem and will be on it asap. :)

Probuilder Wed, March 16th, 2011 01:32 PM

I am not mad, just disappointed.
There are a few things that will make or break a small business.... ...one main one is Customer Service.

Cody has been replying to threads on this forum all day. Still there is nothing on my thread from any of them. I don't know maybe Cody can't fix my problem, that is possible. But, they could at least respond with, We are working on your problem, we are sorry that it has taken us since 7-18-2010 to get to you, when you first said you were having problems and asked for help. I just don't think their computers have been down for that long.
Here is the original thread that I started on 7-18-2010
http://forum.gopowerhungry.com/f-u-c...ip-burner.html

If they are that far behind, then I would say they have enough business to add another person, or they need to raise the prices a touch to afford another person.
Just my 2 cents.

Got ahold of them.
Bill fixed the problem with remote Desktop application. :happy-dancing:

Power Hungry Wed, March 16th, 2011 02:25 PM

The issue has been resolved.

For reference, OCX files (Windows Active-X Controls) can be a bit nasty and tempermental when installing on a 64 bit OS. The problem will occur when the installer does not correctly register the OCX file(s) and they weren't already installed by a previous application's installer. Why this is such a problem is anyone's guess, but I suspect it might be a flaw in the install builder software (in our case, InstallShield).

So here's the fix:

To correct the error, first search your "C:\Windows\System32" folder for MSCOMM32.OCX (or whichever OCX file is causing the issue) to see if you have it. If not, you can usually download the file from the internet or from the vendor of the application.

Once located (or installed), you'll need to register the control. Click [START] --> [RUN] and type "REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMM32.OCX" (without the quotes) in the Run box and then click [OK].

That should fix the problem.

In some cases, you may need to UNREGISTER the control and then re-register it. In this case:

Unregister:
Click [START] --> [RUN] and type "REGSVR32 /u C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMM32.OCX" (without the quotes) in the Run box and then click [OK].

Re-Register:
Click [START] --> [RUN] and type "REGSVR32 C:\Windows\System32\MSCOMM32.OCX" (without the quotes) in the Run box and then click [OK].

Take care.

Probuilder Wed, March 16th, 2011 02:28 PM

didn't fix it. it still says it is unregistered when I try to update the program.

Probuilder Wed, March 16th, 2011 02:40 PM

I tried to unregister and re register per your instructions and it still says there is a problem.

dietoremain Wed, March 16th, 2011 04:15 PM

I attempted the same, still wont open phoenix flash. I hate windows, and im sure bill does too right now.

I'll probably give you a call tomorrow Bill. thanks

Probuilder Wed, March 16th, 2011 05:25 PM

Have bill give you the updated file, complete install, that is a lot easier, then putting in an older version then trying to update the program. Windows 7 won't let you update the file, it will kick you out, as Bill said.
That is what he did for me, was did a remote desktop, then installed the version 1.7.442 on my computer. Now it works like a charm. :happy-dancing: :woot:
This just proves "As long as you are smart enough, anything can be done or fixed." And Bill just happens to be the smart one.

dietoremain Thu, March 17th, 2011 02:02 PM

Bill is the man! Got on the phone with him, took him a whole 10 minutes, he figured out a new way to fix the problem and got phoenix flash installed and updated. Im all set. Just waitin for the chip! :)

Probuilder Sat, April 16th, 2011 06:58 AM

Glad to hear that you are ready for your chip.

Grizzly11 Tue, April 19th, 2011 01:14 AM

i just ordered a chip 2 weeks ago and just got the email to install phoenix did and im getting the same error as you guys did i guess i will be calling bill tomarrow to get the problem solved but is it just the 64-bit version that has problems bc thats why i got the 32-bit was bc of program compatability

screagle07 Tue, April 19th, 2011 08:13 PM

:help:I just got my activation e-mail from Bill and having the same problem. I also just updated IE and have been having some issues with other programs as well. I have never been a fan of Windows but this latest version is a PITA. I hope to get this resolved on my own or will be taking my laptop to work and hope Bill can work his magic tomorrow.

Probuilder Tue, April 19th, 2011 08:50 PM

I think it is just with the 64 bit windows 7 that has the problem.

Do you have the latest updated version of Phoenix installed? Version 1.07.0454

Have you already gotten your chip purchased? If not mine is now for sale, I have had it with this FU chip and burner problems. I never had any problems with the TS Performance chip that I had before this. I will sell my whole setup, FU chip, Burner and all instructions for $400. I just want rid of it. Very dis pleased with the program.:matt-roloff: :thumbsdwn:

screagle07 Fri, April 22nd, 2011 09:44 PM

I was having the same problems. I got in touch with Bill and he did a remote desktop(?) on my laptop. Works great. Now I just have to burn my chip and get it installed :cheesy smile: And he did this on Good Friday after the shop was supposed to be closed. You just have to be persistant and he will get the problem resolved.
