I have a CAI (AFE or AEM, can't remember which) and it growled like that a lot more at the stock setting than it does now that I'm running the 87 tow (level 2) canned tune. That along with the shift point changes has made the truck more drivable. I can't wait till I get my custom tunes! Hopefully that growl will go away or at least be a lot quieter and I can actually take advantage of the performance that the CAI is supposed to provide. I'm already happy with what level 2 has done.

I have a Volant cai on my 07. Without the programmer, it has a nice rumble sound and it gave me a good mpg increase, but as soon as I hooked up the programmer with canned towing, I got a loud annoying drone between 1800-2500 rpms so I removed it. I was told that the custom tunes might fix the problem. When I did get my custom tunes, the drone is still there so I can't even use my cai because it is so loud and annoying. I love what the custom tunes have done for my truck but now I can't use my cai.

I installed my K&N CAI and it doesn't growl until the RPM are above 3000, even before the custom tunes, but it sure makes a big difference. I installed it while waiting for my Evo upgrade to arrive. Really makes the truck sound "mean" when you floor it. It even drown out the exhaust noise its so loud, but only when hot dogging. Supposed to make 15HP and something like 8lbs of torque, but I like the sound.
