Benefits from programming a '09 or '10???
Searching countless other posts here and on other forums, it seems that there is almost NO data on how much power is gained by programming an '09 5.4. The PHP dyno charts from 01/09 are the only data available - how this compares to what is actually produced now that programmers have been released over 1.5 years later is unclear.
Requests: 1. Please publish a recent dyno run with an '09 or '10 5.4 that runs the tunes that you will offer with the Gryphon. 2. Can someone that has PHP tunes (or anyone else's) currently running, say from an XCAL3, publish how it affected their power (subjective) and gas mileage? Thanks. |

I am not the most knowledgable in this subject, but I think I can help a little.
1. the power gained by programming the 09-10 F-150 is going to be about the same, and maybe just a little more than the 04-08. this is because it is basically the same engine with a little different stock tuning, and from what I understand it is a different transmission(Dont quote me on that). 2. Currently the main programmer that PHP sells for gas vehicles is not available for the 09-10 because the main distributor, Edge performance, has not realeased it to them. they do sell a different one that does not include the display like the Gryphon, the XCAL3 that you mentioned, but other than that it would be the same programming. These are going to provide the same power/mileage gains as the Gryphon. 3. A thing about dyno runs is that they are all subjective to altitude, air density, temperature, other A/M mods, and therefore what you see on one might show something different the next day, or even a few hours later. I have not seen any yet, so IDK if anyone with the XCAL3 has done one yet. A member of the forum, martinolead i think is his name, has the XCAL3 with his 09 and he couldnt be happier. He has posted some of his gains that he has seen on other threads, I believe he has gotten 1-2 mpg better and hasnt dyno'd his truck so he doesnt know about HP gains. I hope I helped some without causing too many more questions Edit: his name is Martinoledad and I bet he is willing to answer any question you have of him Last edited by ticopowell; Wed, August 11th, 2010 at 03:11 PM. as stated above I love mine. I actually have missed my tunes for a couple of days because i took the truck in to have the transmission looked at again and i turned the truck back to stock just incase the reflashed my truck. as a matter of fact i might put the tunes back in when im done with this post
I dont have any dyno's probably wont bother with that until im done with what all i want to do with the truck (headers, supercharger etc...) which might take a couple of years still. My throttle response is MUCH!! BETTER!! then it was when it was stock. I would say i get about 1-2 miles better MPG and i run a 87 custom. I have a 91 (should be 93 octane but that was my fault) but its just to expensive to run right now. I just got tired of waiting for edge to release the CS and CTS for the 09-10 models and i couldnt be happier. Just wish i could of had these custom tunes for my 07 FX2 Sport

I just found this thread, might be what you are looking for. the Graphs are a little old, but the programming will not have changed very much if at all since the 09 was dyno'd.

It did help it a little but still there were some problems with the transmission. It will still shift hard from time to time(but nearly as often or as hard). Also a couple of times the truck acted like it didnt know what gear it wanted to be in. I would give it gas and the truck would just shake. Thats the main reason I took it in to have it looked at. I dont know what they did to it, i left at the dealer and picked it up after hours and just never asked what caused it but it hasnt happened since.
