Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled) Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip. If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here. |

Newbie Questions
I'm currently considering the purchase of the a chip however, concerned about the long-term effects to the motor and drive train. I have a 99 7.3 PSD with 165K. It is completely stock. I'm interested in the chip for better shifting, acceleration, and fuel economy. I'm currently getting between 16 & 18 MPG. I tow a 18ft fishing boat regularly but interested in purchasing a travel trailer. I'm interested in anyone's suggestions or input. Thanks.

Put it on!!! I had 340,000 on mine when I did it with no problems, I saw no improvement in mileage but i sure enjoy driving it more so don't expect it and be pleasantly surprised if it does improve. Even 25 hp is a noticeable difference so if your worried about it don't get the high hp tunes and be smart about how you drive it.

Twin Turbo, what tunes do you have on yours? Did you notice better shifting on yours as well?

Tunes
I just went with stock, 1200 high idle, 65DD, 80perf, 65tow and 25heavy tow. Since my truck was a OBS I knew I wouldn't be able to utilize the 80 hp tune but I had dreams of bigger injectors and needed to fill the slots anyway. I never even use it cuz I don't like the way it shifts in 80. Its usually in 65DD or 25heavy tow. Yes the shifting is noticeably better.

Would you also recommend putting in a set of gauges (exhaust temp, boost PSI, trans temp, ect)?

It is highly recommended to put on gauges. I think it is even a good thing to have them even if you do not had a chip. Good way of diagnosing problems.
Another gauge you might want to look into is a fuel pressure gauge. GL!
