Should I be putting a aftermarket valve body in the transmission? It's not a necessity. For most people, the normal tuning will be enough to overcome the factory valve body's shortcomings. However, there are those folks that can't live without an aftermarket VB. It's up to you. For a near stock truck (and especially one with an original transmission (or a stock replacement), a VB is definitely just an option.
The order form on PHP web site asks for idle rpm. At this point it is stock aren't they all about the same? That's to program what idle speed YOU WANT, not the factory idle speed.
It also askes if it is intercooled. Again it is stock. yes it intercooled but not after market. Just mark "yes".
I see on their web site that they have both Daily driver and Perfomance calibrations but on the drop down on the form it is listed as performance. ie 80hp performance. DD is not listed as a choice. ANY program can be your daily driver tune...it all depends on your driving style, shift preference, and how you like your truck to run on a daily basis.
Will the MPG display be even close after the chip is installed? Most likely not
And last what order should I place the Calibrations in?
Stock
65hp tow
80hp daily drive (listed as performance on the drop down)
100hp performance or should I go with 120hp. Will the seat O pants meter know the differance.
Whisper Mode
Fuel sipper
Let me know what you all think and what changes I should make.
Remember that these programs are on a rotary-style switch that allow changes to be made on the fly. To get to any position from another, the programs will be felt as the position is passed. For example, if you wanted to go from 100HP to Fuel Sipper (as you have it listed) you would have to spend at least 1/2 second in Whisper Mode. I would suggest putting Whisper Mode between "stock" and the rest (position 2) because that way you're not passing by it when switching programs.....once you get "tuned", you won't want to go to "stock" again.
The seat-of-the-pants dyno probably won't know the difference between 100 and 120 HP. However, I assume that Bill has some low boost fueling differences between the two programs as well as possible shift characteristic changes.
