Have to get my upgrade & tunes....NOW
I didn't expect to need to send in my Edge for upgrade right away, but as advised, I started to notice a hint of pre-ignition, obviously running too lean. Even with timing backed off a bit, and 91 octane, I still detected a hint on level 2. So, for now, I'm back to stock setting, with no hint of ping.
Of course, this means back to sluggishness and missing the spunk I had. Now to get this unit boxed up and into the mail, on it's way to Power Hungry. At least I'll have something to look forward to when it comes back.

You will not regret it! You will definitely enjoy the custom tunes I believe.

I don't doubt it. Since it ran so good on level 3, I can only imagine it will be better when it's getting the proper fuel, and all other parameters are corrected for the mods it has.

What do you mean by pre-ignition? Did your start up have a little hesitation during start ups? And did it seem to slug on acceleration betweeen 1800 and 2200rpm in first gear. It has since stopped and seems to start and run finely now, but I'm still anxiously awaiting for my 87 perf. tune, because filling 93 is getting harder to do.

Darren, I'm pretty sure he was hearing "ping" (probably under load), if you read the first post carefully. I don't think he had the other symptoms you mentioned.

Ok thanks. I should probably study these things further. I never understood what 'ping' is, is that when WOT and the rev limiter is bouncing off?

Since the gas is expanding as the piston is trying to compress the mixture, there are severe stresses on the rods and the cylinder walls (mostly the rods, I think). It also heats things up quite a bit. A lean mixture can bring on ping, even when the timing is exactly according to specs. A "little" bit of ping now and then is no problem. But, heavy ping can destroy your engine. It of course also robs you of power, since the expanding gasses work against the desired movement of the pistons. - Jack |

Jack, you explained it well. I actually seemed to be doing fine on acceleration, it was at a steady speed I was actually noticing it, and for a brief moment when you let of the gas to reduce some speed. Either way, it's not a good thing as it indicates a lean condition.
