Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled) Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip. If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here. |

my findings on this chip vs DP-for anyone thinking about getting one
Well first off,I will tell you I love Bills tunes.I use to have a Dp tuner that I got used for a sweet deal along with a newer pmt1 calibrated ecm.I was short on money and it fit my needs.Well,I wanted Bills tunes but couldn't afford them then.Well after running it for a few months,I came up with the money and sold my chip to get Bills tunes. The difference is great. My truck runs so much smoother now. Before with the old chip,I would have to run in stock setting just because the injectors sounded like they were going to come out of the engine they were so loud. With this chip,It is about the same noise wise for stock and the performance tunes.I am so glad I got to see what my truck should sound and feel like. I really like how he set the pedal up so its more like stock.Jody had the pedal so touchy,it was hard to drive with on a bumpy road. I really don't see why anyone would suggest his tunes or say they are good unless they haven't tried Bills. Bill is a great tuner and its well worth the money for his chip.

Hearing the injectors themselves isn't really possible unless you're cranking with no fuel or no high pressure oil pressure and the injection control pressure sensor unplugged....even then, it's just a "click".
To the original poster, I will agree with you. I was inclined to purchase Jody's tunes about 4 years back. Even though the truck ran like a scalded ape, it was noticeably louder at an idle with his programming. It didn't bother me, but then again it seems as though other peoples' trucks were a lot louder....at least the people made it seem like the tuning made the idle a lot louder. Mine wasn't bad at all....just a slight bit more combustion noise at an idle. I have had the capability to look at his programming (from 4 years ago) when I started this interest in tuning. I have looked at about half a dozen different tuners' programming techniques and actually started out A LOT different than what I am doing now because of what tools I was using at the time. For what it's worth, there are a lot of folks who love Jody's tuning. There are also a lot of people who have their tuner of choice and won't go anywhere else. Some folks have a bandwagon, some have blind faith, and some don't know any better. There's no blame in saying that someone would LOVE XXXXX's tuning and wouldn't have any other tuning if that's the only tuning they've ever had. I liked Jody's tuning a lot, but only because it was infinitely more user-friendly than the Superchips programmer, Western Diesel Performance chip, Bank's chip, and all of the "free" modifications that I had tried up until that point. Some folks just claim what they have is the best....even if it's the only one they've had. On a similar note, a lot of people rave about Jody's shift points........on my old PMT1 programming, his shift points are no different than stock. I was thoroughly pleased with my DP-T experience. However, now that I can make my own programming that I feel is superior (because it does what I want and runs like I want), I no longer have a need for it. You had an issue with a sensitive accelerator pedal......try an Edge Evo. It's so sensitive that the bucking a jerking while going downhill is unbearable. None of my tunes from DP-T ever did that. In fact, I sold my DP-Tuner to a guy who had an issue with an overly-sensitive pedal. I know how to fix it in programming, but it's something 99% of the people who buy an older Evo will put up with because yes, the truck runs a lot better. I have run other "custom" tuning that did the same thing.....and people LOVE it because of how the truck runs the other 90% of the time. Anyway, this was a total derailment. Carry on.

yeh,I'm pretty sure that it was the icp or timing or both that caused the loud engine noise when under load.

I agree with Cody, a lot of people are on the bandwagon mentality. and yes if you go from stock to any custom tune you are going to see significant improvements.
