Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled) Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip. If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here. |

I got my chip put in over the holiday weekend and I love it. I had no idea the 7.3 could get up and go like this with just a chip.
I do have some questions, this being the first chipped truck I've been in. The truck runs great but seems to have a "flutter" for a long time coming back to idle is this normal? Also after driving and coming to a stop the idle seems slightly higher then normal and then drops to where it usually is in stock mode as soon as I put it in park? We are only talking a 100 rpms at the most here (hard to really gauge on the factory tachometer). I also noticed on a cold morning the truck is much happier starting up in stock mode and also runs quieter in the 65T vs the 80dd under load (ie pulling a hill in lower RPMs). All in all I love the chip and can't wait to test it towing, thanks Bill!! |

Glad to hear it.
![]() As to the flutter, can you offer a bit more detail? Is this meaning something like a rough idle? Odd noise? As for the idle, it's not uncommon to get a little hang with a performance program. It's related to changes in the Injection Pressure table which are used to help improve throttle response. Some trucks will experience it and some won't. It mostly just depends on how efficient your HPOP is. Let me know on the flutter and I'll see what we can come up with. Take care.

The "flutter" I guess is just a non rythmic sound when I let off the accelerator and the torque converter is not locked up. It is more like it is trying to come down to a smooth idle and eventually does. The more I drive it the less I notice it. I love the 80dd out on the freeway.
One other thing I have noticed is that in stock the torque conveter will lock at about 35 or so going uphill if the overdrive is locked out, but in the other tunes it will not do this. What points do you command the torque conveter to lock up in your tunes?

The fluttering is probably the ICP stablizing as you're decelerating and it causes a little rolling or flutter in the engine RPM which changes its tone. This wouldn't be a big issue to correct.
On your particular files, the converter strategy is left stock so it should be locking at the same point it was before. The only major shifting differences are in the 2-3 and 3-4 upshifts, with minor changes in 1-2, 2-1, 3-2, and 4-3 shifts, and they shouldn't be enough to affect the converter strategy. One thing that might be happening is that because your power output for a given throttle curve has changed, it can have some moderate affects on the shifting because you are using less pedal to make the same power. Since all the major shifts are handled via MPH and Accelerator Position, this can change when and how the shifts occur. I suspect this is probably what you're experiencing. I hope this helps.
