Need some Info on a Gryphon
Hey everyone!
I've had an 04 F-150 4.6 Supercab for a little over a year now and have done a few things to it. I have an AEM brute force intake, a roush offroad dual exhaust, and 33x12.50x17 tires. I want to get a Gryphon programmer and don't really know what I can get with it. I would like to have a program that would save me gas, a program for pulling my boats, and a program where I can just step on it and dust somebody. Any suggestions? I also wanted to try doing a truck pull this year. Some guy won it last year with 299 feet in a 4.6 F-150. Is there a tune for something like this? Will the gryphon adjust for my tires also? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks! ![]() |

Your first three are very common. You could get by with getting a performance tune instead of both a performance and economy because they are pretty similar in many aspects. The towing is also easy to do. As for the truck pull I'm sure Bill can arrange something for you.

And, the Gryphon CAN adjust for your non-stock tires.

![]() It will be cool to see what the programmer can do to change the driving characteristics until I get the new rear end in. This programmer should be exactly what you are looking for For your truck. Cool thing is that if you ever change some thing on your truck you can have a tune made to make up for it! |

![]() There was a member who found that the canned tow tune improved his highway mileage, even compared to the the performance tune. I think he was running 35s.

I went from stock 20's to 325/60/20's (a wee bit bigger than 35x12.50) and picked up the Gryphon at the same time. I'm running the canned tow tune until my custom tune is done and my mileage is pretty much the same as it's been since the truck was new. And I'm talking miles per tank, not what the readout says. I reset my odometer at every fill, and have done since I bought the truck so I keep a pretty good eye on it. The caveat would be that most of my weekly driving is on the highway. Stop and go traffic really kicks the crap out of mileage. |

So when I order a programmer, what comes on it? I've heard of "canned" tunes, but I am not 100% on what they are. Is there anyone out there that has a 4.6 with a Gryphon? How does it work for your truck? Does it really wake it up?

They are tunes for a stock vehicle. If you have ANY modifications to the drivetrain of your truck ie: intake, exhaust, throttle body etc. you need to get a custom tune. Even tire size change you should get new tunes. For a stock engine the caned tunes will make it come alive and run great!
Caned is another word for stock in the programmer world ![]()
