i've noticed a few guys here asking around about transmission 'hang' up or engine lug/power loss
mostly ive just been reading through these discussions. when i experience this it doesnt bother me because i realize you cant have full power and best economy simultaneously...in all driving conditions(up hills etc) my question is, is this what a variable transmission conquers? ive only seen bits and pieces of them on commercials and they appear to eliminate lug and bogging down to a 'shift point'. giving you 100% power all the time. i dont know if this is good for economy or not.... anybody knowledgable on these type trannys? whats really got me thinking is people that are experiencing violent shifts, i dont quite understand what causes this, but thats for another thread.

It DOES look cool, 88. At first, I thought this was just a rebirth of Buick's old "dyna-flow" torque converter design, but I see it's far different. I think Honda has something similar in their later cars now, and it's been there for 3-4 years, so it must be working for them.
When you think about it, a "shift", no matter how well designed, puts stress on something. And, where there's stress, there's "wear and tear". I sure like the concept. Kind of like the difference between tri-focal glasses and "progressive" lenses! ![]() - Jack

I remember a friend of mine talking about something similar to this that went on bicycles.
