Question Paint for the pod...

What kind of paint has everyone used to paint your pod, and did you get it to match good? (Got any pics?)

I am waiting for my Gryphon to be delivered on Mar. 11th and I have the tan interior in my '08:

That's a very elegant interior, Eddie. Unfortunately, most of us have an almost titanium grey color in the part of the panel where the pod mounts, and it matches the pod nearly perfectly.

I think I'd try taking a panel piece to a pain shop and see if they could mix you a can. It would be somewhat expensive, but shouldn't break the bank. I doubt you're going to find any commercial rattle cans with that color.

And, I suspect you're going to find that even Ford won't have a paint to match, although I'd sure try there first.

All I can say is, good luck! If you ever find the paint, you'll find the pod will paint very well (if it's anything like the older, black ones).

Default It would be nice if they made a Tan pod for our interiors.

My old 04 FX4 had the silver, but I just bought an 08 XLT ext.cab. w/tan interior as in the photo. I have the 40/20/40 or whatever that is. No console in the middle. Any chance of you guys making it in tan?

PHP gets the pods from Edge, and the color is molded in to the plastic, not painted on. I imagine if the demand was high enough, Edge could have them made in two colors. I wonder how many Fords have the tan interiors?

Not very many. I've asked Edge about it and there would have to be a significant demand (say 1000 pods) before they consider a color change. Suffice to say, I wouldn't hold my breath.

As for paint, you should be able to take the interior coloring code to an automotive paint store and they should be able to match it pretty well. The color coding should be on the build information sticker on the door jamb. At least it used to be.

Hope this helps.

Bill, I could easily be wrong, but I think the interior color code is not a "paint specific" one. I'm pretty sure there will be a code for "tan", and another for "grey" and so forth. It won't tell you the paint formulation for that specific part of the dash. Since the color is molded into the plastic, paint is not a factor. That's why I suggested taking a panel piece to a paint shop.

I believe Krylon makes a khaki color that may be pretty close. I have the gray dash so I never had to worry about it. This should be easier than getting a custom color mixed and you can always spray the bottom to see how it looks. Good luck with whatever you decide to try.

I went thru this and did find a close but not exact match. There are pictures of the painted pod and the brand of paint I used in my gallery. I bought the paint in Austin at Gladwin Paints. I was referred there by a body shop I stopped at to inquire about matching the trim color.

If you could tone down the red in that paint, that would be perfect. Like Jack said, it's just a touch warmer. Heckuva nice looking truck, though!
