Lost some switch positions
I have the Phoenix chip and I'm waiting on a new dash insert from another vendor which will house the rotating switch for the chip. Until I get the dash piece I've temporarily mounted the switch in the dash by just drilling a simple hole and mounting it through there. At first I must not have mounted it right because the whole switch would rotate instead of switching to the various settings, (there are 6 in all). I redid it and now it switches, but I've only got the first 3 positions, Stock, High Idle, 80 hp daily driver. I'm guessing there's a way to adjust the switch to limit the amount of positions it uses.
How do I fix this and get all 6 positions back? Thanks, |

I'm going to go out on a limb here because it seems like most everyone does this at some point or another but never pays attention when putting the thing back together; like all of the pieces don't need to be there or go back together a certain way.......
The detent washer was installed with the tab in the wrong hole. Take off the knob, the nut, and the star washer. Then remove the detent washer. Turn the switch shaft fully counterclockwise and then reinstall the detent washer with the tab in the hole labeled as "6". Reinstall the star washer, nut, and knob. VOILA!!!

Well I'm pretty certain I didn't leave any bits out when I installed it, but it was a difficult place to get my big fat hands into. I have little doubt I'm to blame for buggering the install, but I sure do appreciate your help and guidance. I'll get it put back together the right way. It'll be a lot easier when I get the custom panel from Riff-Raff.

Yep, that was it. Thank you for the help. I still screwed it up when I mounted it though. I put the tab in slot 7 so it would click 6 time. Sometimes I can be extra stupid.
Installing the switch without getting the tab position messed up is difficult. I wish the switch would ship with two nuts, one that can be tightened in the down position to hold the washer and the other to capture the mount. In my case I put the tab in the slot and covered it with a piece of masking tape. I also drilled a small hole for the little pin that sticks up from the switch. I had to eyeball where to drill the hole since I don't recall seeing any info on that in the installation instructions. Is there any information on your website that would give the dimensions for drilling the holes? It would probably be beneficial if you could include a template we could tape on the mounting surface to use as a guide for drilling. Is there a drawing on that switch anywhere? I would also like to have some kind of switch label, Even something as simple as 1,2,3,4,5,6 would be helpful. That way I could be sure of the switch position with a quick glance. |
