Good news, my block came back from the machine shop with a clean bill of health. No cracks, and will need to be bored .030 and will need one sleeve. So I will be filling the block next week, then sending it back to the machine shop for them to finish up when the rest of my parts show up.

I take it the rods must be powder metal (did I say that right?).

I blew a 7.3 a few years ago, it had over 600,000 miles on it. Well realy starting fluid did, it a cracked a piston.

I rebuilt a 2001 7.3 last year every thing new from turbo to oil pan and I have it sitting in storage in case one of my 7.3 lets go.

Nope, they were forged rods that I polished, and had the machine shop magnaflux, shot peen, and heat treat.

I think they must have had a hard life in their previous engine.
