The 3.8 in general was bad about head gaskets.

Early to mid 80's 1.9L 4 cylinder's »timing belt broke, you were looking to repair/replace the head and/or pistons.

Ford did fix it in 86-87 by machining in reliefs on the pistons for the valves on the 1.9L. But then that genious engineer must have gotten fired or retired. Haha LOL's
