Question about Gryphon and Dealerships clearing codes
Hey guys
I had my truck in for service at a local dealership a few months ago to fix an issue where the spark plug blew out of the block. The dealer cleared the codes and i'm wondering if there is a chance that they could have returned the trucks computer back to stock? Will i need to reupload my maps to the gryphon and then reload them back into the truck? |

RE:Dealer clearing codes
If they just cleared the codes should be no problem - if they flashed the PCM with an update I would think that your Gryphon would not be able to communicate - if they changed it back to stock but then you should be showing Level 0. Others may have different understanding of this .. best let Bill respond when he gets back next week

I think cogger has pretty much answered you in the first part of his reply, but the second part confused me - sorry cogger!
If you took the truck to the dealer and the PCM was tuned to a level above 0, and he reflashed it back to stock, you're probably going to find your Gryphon won't communicate with it. You'll need Bill's help. Rule of thumb: Always, always, set the PCM back to stock BEFORE you take your truck to a dealer - ALWAYS! But, if your Gryphon can talk to the PCM - you're cool. There was no reflash. - Jack

A couple things:
Did you return to stock before going to the dealer for service? It sounds like you didn't. If you did NOT return to stock, follow these steps to see if you're OK... 1) Disconnect and then reconnect the unit in with the Key On. Make a note of the HEX code displayed on the screen. 2) Go to the Main menu, select Diagnostics and then Tech Support. 3) From the Tech Support menu, go to Version Info. 4) On the second screen in Version Info, make a note of the current vehicle HEX code. 5) If the 2 HEX codes match, you are in good shape. If not, then you'll need to contact us so we can restore your unit to an unused condition so you can start over. Until you confirm that the calibration code in the PCM has not changed, DO NOT TRY TO PROGRAM! You may disable your vehicle/PCM. Not unrecoverable, just inconvenient. Hope this helps.

Hey Bill
I checked the HEX codes and they match. Do i have anything to worry about? In regards to setting the programming back to stock, i thought you mentioned previously that I couldn't do it with my programmer since it was an older model (i have an 02 f-150). If i'm incorrect on this please confirm. thanks for your help Jason |

You can always go back to stock. I think we have a miscommunication somewhere.
Let me give you a call here in a few minutes and make sure I fully understand the situation. I don't want to cause a problem and have you end up going back to the dealer. If you could, PM the best number to reach you at. Thanks.
