Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled)
Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip.

If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here.

Default Impressions

It seems to me that most posts here always have some mistake or negative posted to them...

This one will be totally opposite!

I just installed my 6 pos phoenix and here are my impressions:

Pos 1: Stock
-seems almost to accelerate a little better. I am assuming thats just my imagination.

Pos 2: 1000 rpm hi Idle
-What can I say, it does just that.Perfect

Pos 3: 45 hp tow
-I tried this tune last, it was obviously perkier than stock, but after trying the others, its definitely reserved for towing

Pos 4: 65 hp Tow
-This is the the amount of power these trucks should have come with. Not mind shattering, but it moves how you'd expect the big motor to push it. I have a JWVB and it shifts just like before the chip. (45 tow is the same shifting) I never really noticed how it shifted with the valve body until I tried the Pos 5...I do remember how much I hated the pre valve body shifting. It sucked.

Pos 5: 80 hp DD

OK, to be honest this was the second tune I tried...the first was hi idle. Shifting is amazing. The best of all the positions in that department. The throttle is docile till about 25% into it then it shows itself. No smoke, but good power. below 25% is feels like the truck is just running really good and light.
I took it out and hammered on it and it was zippy, just not crazy crazy. I immediatley started thinking, what's next on the upgrade list...Ported heads and the IDM to get the throttle response and low end boost up.

This is definitely going to be my DD position, Its a clean looking way to go fast.

Pos 6: 100 hp Perf

After trying the 80 dd, I had my fingers crossed for the 100 hp tune...and I was initially doubtful. I was thinking that my motor was just too stock to really see crazy gains. So I switched it to 6, punched it and heard that turbo spin and was sucked into my seat. Now thats more like it. It was docile when I let off the loud pedal.

So I thought, I need to check the smoke, to see how undercover I need to be to use this. I punched it again while looking in the mirror...And sure enough there was that locomotive tell tale! She definitely smokes and is moving.

This tune will be reserved for when I really need to get somewhere and who cares who sees.

So over all I am very very happy! PHP has made me a believer for sure. They delivered a perfect chip exactly how I wanted it (After Bill was kind enough to discuss with me what I needed) Great stuff!

Tell me about it. I am looking for a spare set of heads and am about to order an IDM...
I should just look for a long block somewhere (I have an 02)

This was supposed to TOW the race cars..not become one.

I think you would be better of looking for a spare engine. That way you will have plenty of spare parts just in case you need them.

What is your plan for the heads?

Must finish minis...must finish mini's...must finish mini's....

Ok. I have decided...I am definitely going to do the swamps IDM, because people say it helps with that 0 mph slam on the go pedal response...

I will then do the adrenaline and eventually a GTP38R...

When I do the turbo, I will look for a set of heads to port match and polish out the intake side. As for the exhaust side, I will look at the exhaust manifolds and see how fugly they are, maybe open them up a bit and match the head to it. A little massaging to the exhaust ports definitly. Only to smoothen out flow though. I want to assist velocity and get that turbo spooling sooner.

I really would like to get my hands on a set of heads and exhaust manifolds..and a gasket set. Not alot of 7.3's out in my part of the woods...

Not to mention I haven't even thought about how much of a headache it is to R/R a set of heads

Look at me My truck is probably twice as fast as it ever was...running great, I have had my chip in it for about 5 hours (which I love BTW) and I already want to make it spool faster...

I need help...professional help.

Does the year of the Heads matter or will any 7.3 do?

Also on the block...Finding lots of early 90's 7.3...Obviously I would want a 2000-2001, but do any of the others come with goodies like the nice rods that I might want to check out....

I am incorrigible...

Actually the exhaust manifold ports are pretty big when compared to the head, at least a 1/4'' larger. Shoot me a PM if you want some pic's of my "big heads".

I have a spare set of heads and manifolds if you are interested, but shipping is gonna be a b*tch.

Sorry, I think I am the one that needs help.

I am a bad influence.

When I sent my PMR's Packing....Thru the side of my Block, I picked up a complete engine from a Salvage yard with Warrenty. My buddies dad an Insurance guy with allstate he was able to locate a few around me and tell me the milage and price of the engine. A carfax report from the vin on the engine confirmed the milage and for 2400 Bucks i walked away with a Complete 7.3 with Forged Rods and An engine warrenty.

Wife just took a ride with me to costco... While driving there was a " add non-PC comment here " driver was swerving into my lane, so I mashed the pedal doing about 40... and shot off like a rocket.

The wife with a shocked look on her face said,"What did you do to the turbo?" and gave me the "how much did you spend" look.

Well she knows about the chip now... My CC now has an auditor
