Phoenix Switch-On-The-Fly Chip (DISCOUNTINUED) (Disabled)
Power Hungry no longer sells the Phoenix/TS chip, but if you need custom tuning we can recommend a few really good tuners that will be able to still provide tuning and support for your chip.

If you have any other questions or comments about the Phoenix/TS chip, please post it here.

Default Chip problems.....truck just quits running

I installed my new chip about a month ago. Everything was working great till yesterday. I was towing my trailer and the truck just died in the middle of the intersection. Started right up and then died again. Service engine soon light came on. Started truck again and drove off to the side of the road and then truck died again. Thought that it might be the chip so I pushed on it and then service engine light went away and the truck ran fine all the way home. Got into it today and it quit again. Same thing happend. Pushed on the chip and truck was fine. So I pretty sure that the contacs are good and cleaned. Could my chip just shake loose?? I noticed that the duct tape that was holding in place was off. If this is the problem is there a better way to hold the chip in place?

Thank you

Kyle

I would double check all the contacts on both chip and PCM, they will do it every time.

And add new piece of tape for a little extra insurance.

Good Luck

Ok so I took the chip out and cleaned the contacts again and tripple taped it. Truck ran great for 2 days. Today pulled up to a stop light and the truck died. Started it and drove it for 7 miles and then came to another stop light and truck died. Whats going on?? Is it my chip, or what??

What happens when it dies, is the check engine light going away, any wait to start light?

Have you had the recalled CPS installed?

Any stored fault codes?

So sometime truck just dies with out any lights on. Other times the service engine soon light comes on. Today it just died with no service engine light that came on. Well back in 2003 the CPS went out so Ford put a new one in. Is this going out again maybe. It is doing the same thing as when it went out in the first place. Just wired that it happends only once in a while. The truck had no problems for a couple of months with the chip till just a couple of days ago.

It could very well be your CPS. They are so cheap now I would try changing it out to see if it fixes it. If not throw it in the glove box as a spare because eventually you will be needing it again.

Without having a labscope or scan tool you will not know for sure it that is your issue.

Above the harmonic balancer (crank pulley) and off to the passenger side a bit. About 10 o'clock.

It just has one 10mm bolt holding it in place, remove that bolt and with a little light twisting and prying it will pop right out. Be sure to lube the new sensor 0-ring with a drop of oil before installing it.

Good Luck
