Changing Digital Readout from KM to Miles
I purchased a FX4 Cluster to install into my XLT for cosmetic reasons, and the cluster and everything functions 100 percent, the only issue im having is I guess the cluster was from a canadian truck because the digital readout displays the mileage in KM's instead of miles.
I read in the owners manual if my truck was equipped with the message center there is a procedure to switch it back and forth, if not visit a dealer. Anyone have any idea how I could change this? From Owners Manual Odometer: Registers the total miles (kilometers) of the vehicle. • With Mini Message Center • With Full Message Center Refer to Message Center in the Drivers Controls chapter on how to switch the display from Metric to English. MESSAGE CENTER (IF EQUIPPED) Units (English/Metric) 1. Select this function from the SETUP menu for the current units to be displayed. 2. Press the RESET control to change from English to Metric |

It would seem to me that the control for E/M would be through the instrument cluster. On my Expy I just go the setup menu and switch between English and Metric, just like you indicated in your post.

Index, my 2005 has the message center and I think you need a "part". Trucks with a message center have a 3-pushbutton switch assembly that fits into the dashboard to the right of the steering wheel. The center button is the "Setup" button and you push that to cycle through several menu items, one of which is "Units". Then you press the "Reset" button to toggle between Miles or kilometers.
If you don't have that control, you're kind of out of luck. If you can find the truck your cluster came out of, it would have the switch assembly. Then I'm sure you'd just plug it into a wiring harness on the instrument cluster. Of course you might find this switch assembly at a dealership too, for a steep price. - Jack

Ah... It didn't even occur to me that he might not have the buttons.

It's possible a dealership could perform a "one-time" reset from km to miles too. It might be worth asking about.

If you'd like to use the message center to your advantage then get the lower part of the dash that has the buttons....
