Dan,
I'm pretty sure that on most vehicles out there that the power supply is shared between the obdII port and the cigarette lighter port. The secondary power ports are sometimes ran off a different circut due to possible higher draws incase the lighter is ever used as intended and overloads the circut. Might want to make sure all your fuses are intack.

Alls I know is that in times past when hooking up and unhooking scan tools is that sometimes the fuses are already week and using the scan tool some how gets them to pop.

yeah i just looked it only has a 10 amp fuse in it but it isn't blown, owners manual say it needs a 25 amp fuse for it, don't think i have ever seen a 25, lots of 20's and 30's though
